A&W POUTINE

While not your regular poutine, A&W poutine is quite delicious.  And although it does kind of look like a certain bowel movement, it sure doesn't taste like it ;).  To be honest, when I first tried this poutine I was quite disappointed.  But as I ordered it more and more at A&W, I fell in love.  This dish is a bit different than a classic poutine.  Instead of using beef gravy they use the A&W gravy which is a chicken-based gravy.  However, I find that many times I order this poutine and the gravy is at the top of the dish and not evenly spread throughout.  This doesn't melt the cheese as nice and doesn't create the gooey delicious mess a poutine is.*  Despite this A&W poutine is one of my favourites.  A&W has done a great job in making a poutine that stands out from the others.

The Messy Looking Delicious A&W Poutine

*Edit:  This poutine has grown to be one of my favourites.  It is always put together amazingly nice despite what I said before.  Some A&W locations will even serve it in a GLASS dish!  Pretty amazing for a fast food place.  90% of the time, much care is put into each poutine.

Dairy Queen Poutine

DAIRY QUEEN POUTINE

This is one of my favourite poutines of the fast food world.  This is the poutine that sparked my love for poutine.  This is the poutine that is the current background for my phone.  This is the poutine of all fast food poutines*.  This is the Dairy Queen Poutine.  It is the classic poutine; fries, gravy, cheese curds.  It comes in two sizes, regular and large (Which they call a "Basket").  Although it is just a generic poutine dish, you can add bacon, which is on the "secret" menu, I guess.  I find when I order a delicious, magical poutine from DQ, it is always put together really nice.  The fries are nicely placed, the cheese curds spread evenly throughout, and the gravy hot enough to melt the cheesy goodness all into one delectable meal.  The one time I was not quite satisfied was when I went through the drive-thru.  It was just weird that one time.  I have been to DQ many a time to buy poutine, especially in my Grade 10 Year when we went every month to buy two large basket poutines to share and enjoy the five or so blocks back to school.  So for me, this poutine brings memories.  Happy memories of lush, fantastic poutine.

Poutine Tour Alberta

Intro

 In this Fabulous blog,  I will talk about many different poutines in Alberta, Canada.  I will taste test the most exemplary and the not so exemplary poutines across Alberta. 

For those who might not know what a poutine is, (That is unforgivable, unless of course, you are from the United States of 'Merica. or any other country for that matter) a poutine is a wonderfully scrumptious meal originating in Canada or more specifically in Quebec (for all you Quebecois poutine freaks).  Poutine consists of golden french fries topped with smooth gravy, and of course cheese, more specifically cheese curds (also for all you Quebecois poutine freaks).  Poutine can include other wonderful toppings such as bacon, maple syrup, green onions and other veggies, to name a few.  If you still don't know what poutine is I'll include a picture.
